The Challenge
Sports Bug Jersey received a formal request from Health and Care Jersey. The request asked for their existing privacy notice and completion of the OIC’s self‑assessment questionnaire—key documentation required under Jersey law for data controllers.
As a small organisation, Sports Bug Jersey had not yet published a privacy notice, nor registered with the OIC or implemented proper cookie consent mechanisms.
Our Approach
Registration & Assessment
We registered Sports Bug Jersey with the Jersey Office of the Information Commissioner and guided them through the implementation of the self‑assessment questionnaire.
The goal was to achieve transparency and full alignment with the Data Protection Authority (Jersey) Law 2018, which mandates registration and empowers the OIC with oversight and enforcement authority.
Implementing Tools & Systems Integration
We deployed Cookiebot, enabling proper consent management. We integrated key services—Google Site Kit, Meta /Facebook Pixel, Mailchimp, Bokeoo and Airtable—so all data flows were documented, compliant, and governed within a clear consent framework.
Privacy Notice Crafting & Review
We drafted a privacy notice fully aligned with the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018, providing clear information on data collection, usage, storage, data subject rights, retention policies, and lawful bases—all anchored in Jersey’s data protection principles.
After several iterations with the Government’s legal representative, the notice was approved.
The Result
Sports Bug Jersey now has:
- Official OIC registration and documented compliance.
- A legally sound, approved privacy notice.
- Consent management via Cookiebot integrated with their systems.
- A clean, auditable data flow across their platforms.
This comprehensive approach not only ensures legal compliance but also fosters customer trust and safeguards the organisation against potential penalties.
